My responsibilities as Assistant Tax Collector
The Tax Collector is an agent for various state and local government agencies, for the collection of revenue and public funding.
The office of the Tax Collector is authorized by Florida’s Constitution as a separate entity from other County Departments or Agencies. The Tax Collector provides a wide range of services to the citizens of Martin County.
They include, the collection of:
Ad valorem and non-ad valorem taxes,
Vehicle and vessel registration,
Title applications,
Collection of sales tax,
Issuance of occupational licenses,
Hunting and fishing licenses,
Driver licenses,
The collection of tourist development taxes,
Collection of County and City EMS billing,
Collection of special assessments
As well as conducting a tax certificate sale on unpaid real estate taxes.
The Tax Collector operates as a “fee office”, which means a fee or commission is earned for the services provided.
These fees and commissions are outlined in the Florida Statutes. All unused fees are remitted to the County Commission
and various taxing authorities. |
